In Reality .....

Referring to the article which was published in the Dhivehi Observer titled “We demand immediate and unconditional release of Gasim Ibrahim” (http://207.148.237.92/news/release_gasim.htm ).

As one goes through it more and more it shows a piece of mind of some one who judges a book by its cover. This is unacceptable in an educated world. It’s a pity that the article was written on behalf of Maldivian students in Malaysia, because two third of the number had no clue that it was published and most were shocked and felt violated as their feelings were expressed wrongly.

Agreed, Malaysia accommodates a large number of Maldivian students in its universities and colleges. Also agreed, that most of us are not supporters of any groups and that we love our country very much.

But in the referred article, we have to disagree with many statements made in it. Including the title it self.

The most prominent point was the release of the Maldivian industrialist Mr. Gasim Ibrahim. And the few people, who were involved in the publishing, demanded an immediate release. Well …. we assure  that is not what the Maldivian students want from our government. This may have been under interests of a handful of students or people to make a cry for the release of Mr. Gasim.  We believe that to maintain the peace and the tranquility of the country, the government should take any step necessary, and we support the decision taken in arresting Mr. Gasim.

As far as we are concern the ideal way before saying or writing something is always confirming how true it is, rather than saying what u think or believe is true. What we are trying to say here is who ever had published this article should have better confirm what’s really on the minds of all the Maldivian students at Malaysia regarding the issue and not some believers of the writer, so as to bring out the true image of the story.

Also arguing to the point made by the writer simply saying there are no much progress and development visible within 26years of the presidency of his Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. I would like to spot out the recent gatherings held at the Tetrapod Monument, which it self symbolizes the development of the Maldives along with the republican square where the last gatherings were held. From BBC Sanjeev Srivastava said it better “It was president Gayyom who transformed this unknown country of fisherman in to a booming tourism dependent economy”.   These are just a few trophies from his case.

As we go through the pages of the old findings we can see that the easiest way of becoming a leader has always been following one, and then finding the one in you. We think now the time has come to think seriously about what the content really means. ( 170804 )
