The messages below were written by detainees at the Maribyrnong Detention Centre west of Melbourne, Australia, just before Christmas 2001. To protect the authors from reprisals at the hands of ACM staff at the Centre, the names and one or two identifying details have been blacked out.
Visitors may be interested to know that well-known Australian author Arnold Zable wrote an article featuring these cards which was published in The Age newspaper on Boxing Day, 26 December 2001.
