| Indicators of Giftedness Giftedness is the manifestation of ability to learn well beyond the expected level of one's age. It can be discovered through outstanding student preformance, high test scores, or through observation. These abilities are sometimes muted in students by unfavorable enviormental circumstances and need to be actively sought. * Within any indicator, a single criterion may reveal a need for for services. However, no single criterion can eliminate a student from consideration. *Information from any and all indicators may be used in matching students with appropriate service options. * Information used from each indicator should be directly related to the service option considered. * Information from specific indicators may be given priority for specific service options (e.g., math achievement/preformance --- advanced math class). |

| Screening Macon County Schools annually conduct a formal mass screening using group aptitude test scores, a review of EOG scores and teacher recommendation in order to establish a pool of students who may need differentiated services. Specifically all third and sixth grade students will be given the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test as a screening measure. Recommendations for screening will be taken from teachers, parents, and administrators at all other grade levels. The search phase will be conducted by administrators, regular education teachers, and AG teachers. The screening process will take place early in the school year so that services can be offered as soon as possible to the beginning of each school year. Particular attention will be given to potentially gifted students from culturally diverse backgrounds, the economically disadvantaged, or those among disabled populations. |
