Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to my class! I’d like to introduce myself - I am Mrs. Debbie Garvey, mother of three and grandmother of four great kids. I love teaching kindergarten and I am very excited to have you in class this coming year. My assistant is Mrs. Ruthie Gibson, mother of two and grandmother of one. Just a few things to be thinking about and working on this summer as you get ready for kindergarten.
As you shop for new clothes and shoes please keep in mind that we will be cooking, painting, gluing, sliding, playing in the sandbox, running, and all kinds of other fun activities so buy clothes that are washable, comfortable to move in, and easy to get in and out of in the bathroom. Shoes should be rubber soled tennis shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are dangerous on the playground and in PE.
Students will need a towel for rest time. Blankets and pillows are not allowed for lack of storage space. I suggest that you send along a change of clothes in case of spills or accidents to keep in your child’s backpack. Please buy small backpacks as students will be carrying only a folder and small book to and from school. No backpacks with wheels, please. Label all belongings.
It will be helpful for your child to start learning the last five numerals of their social security number. This number will be used at lunch and the library and will follow them throughout their school career.
Looking forward to meeting and working with you,
Mrs. Garvey and Mrs. Gibson
