Happy Fall Y’all! The season and month have changed and we are noticing the signs of the new season. Our month long theme will be Pumpkins and we will observe, measure, experiment, draw, and cook with pumpkins. We’ll celebrate October with a pumpkin party at the end of the month. Cartoogechaye does not celebrate Halloween but we will have a great time with pumpkins. Our language arts theme for the next three weeks is Colors All Around. We will study the letters S, M, R, and T one a week for the next four weeks. We are learning the sound associated with each letter. At home you can listen for S words this week and see how many you can find. Students are allowed to bring in small items that begin with the letter of the week for a phonics table. Please don’t send breakable items. We are making an alphabet book with a page for each letter. If you have a label or box with a name that your child knows, Apple Jacks cereal for example, send it in to go in our book. In math we are working on counting and patterning. We will continue with numeral recognition and calendar concepts. We have officially been told that breakfast will be free for kindergarten all year. |

Picture day is this Wednesday. A field trip to Deal Farms Corn Maze is on Thursday, October 5th. Sorry for the misprint on the permission slip. The other classes are going on different days. Parents may meet us at the Corn Maze at 12:30. If you’d like to take your child home with you afterwards please find me and tell me so that I will know where they are. Please send in the signed permission slip and 3 dollars if you have not already done so. There is no school on Monday, Oct. 9th. This is a teacher work day at the end of the 6 week grading period. Kindergarten will not get a report card until mid year in January and the second one at the end of the year. We are assessing each student each six weeks and if your child needs extra support I will let you know. The first assessments establish a baseline for each child and helps me to plan instruction. Please do not be alarmed if you don’t hear from me—all is well! Remember to put your child’s name in all those jackets and sweaters that are coming to school with the cooler weather. |
