Joe Adams was a prolific artist.
He was also a friend of mine since we met in art school back in 1988.
A book could be written about him, but to keep it basic, he was born and grew up in West Virginia. He got really into Marvel comics, especially Thor. He created a character in high school called Monozar of which he drew many stories.
In 1986 he went to NJ where he went to the Kubert School.
Around 1991 or so, back in West Virginia, he started having a nervous breakdown. In 1992 he jumped out of his mothers moving car, punched a police officer in the face, jumped in the police cruiser while the cop was still dazed and led the police on a high speed chase, leading to his arrest and eventual ins and outs of several West Virginia hospitals where he was diagnosed a paranoid schizophrenic. The art and stories in this book collect the autobio stuff Joe was doing during this time. They address his fetishes, paranoias, interests, friends, family, hates, loves, his life and his pain.
Ultimately, Joe killed himself in 1994.
I've  always felt that these comics and drawings should be out there. I even told him so. He told me that if I could ever get them printed that would be great.  After waiting several years I finally decided that he wasn't going to be "discovered" sitting in an envelope in my room..
So, with much thanks to Brian Bilter and Eric Osgood, here is the first Joe Adams collection.
