| I have seen many people tell the story of their car, so I decided to tell mine. I got my first camaro back in 1988. I didn't have it long before I started to put go fast things on it. When I bought my truck in 89' I decided to make it a drag car. I have a friend that had a 69 Chevelle SS with a 396. I got the motor from him. The motor went into my 78. I didn't have much motivation so the car sat alot of the time. I did strip the interior and put a one piece front end on it. I got a 57' Pontiac rear end for it (Damn thing is heavy as hell) 4.88 Gears. After awhile I decided to make it a street car so I got a 81' from another friend. One saturday I swapped the whole drive train from one car to another. And one door that was in better shape. When I moved to a house I brought the car home so I could work on it more. (it sat at my dad's motorcycle shop ) I spent alot of time at another friends house getting it done. I am now back to drag racing it now. In October of 94' the car came to life. And on my (now) wife's birthday, I raced for the first time. After a few different times at the track I came to the conclusion that the car was not fast enough. So I traded the bottom end for a 454. The motor was in a friends garage. I was in the process of making it a 468. We moved back into and apartment and my car went back to Dad's shop.. Well my first son was born and times became hard. So I didn't do much to the motor. Well I got a call one day to go get my stuff from the house because the guy was selling things because he was busted for dealing drugs. Well my motor was gone. He had built it and sold it. Plus my high performance oval port heads and a set of rectangle ports. So I was out money and a engine. I never knew the whole time I hung out there that he dealt and did drugs. All the guys knew that I hated drugs so they never did them around me or pushed them on me. If you are wondering, no I had to idea where he went. The whole time I could not believe or understand why this happen. This friend had taught me alot and I really enjoyed hanging out at his house working on our cars. I lost all interest in the car. Back in 99' the wife and boys and I moved back into a house and I decided to bring the car home again and give it another try. I found a complete 396 and put in in the car. When I got it going I found out it was not that good. I put a solid cam and springs in it. Made a big difference. I found a guy in Conneticut that had a fiberglass one piece front end and fiberglass doors. So I had him ship them to me. I put these on and in it made a little difference. I have since went to full roller and a dominator set up. With bigger heads. So that is where I am at now. The car sitting waiting to go to the paint shop. I had it painted in 2001 Admiral Blue. Love tha color, but the paint job is a little to be desired. A buddy and I just finished putting the roll cage in the car. My next step is to get the car running better. Then install the ladder bar coil over setup that I just sitting in the garage. |
