(posted on the Class
of 58 Bulletin Board--Archives) I'm having trouble drawing from my memory bank, the connecting of names with faces. I hope you are not having the same experience. I remember the Class of '58 very well. What a wonderful bunch of kids and I'm sure they are now a wonderful group of Senior Citizens. One amusing incident, I overheard some students referring to me as "old man" Bender. It made me smile because I was less than ten years older than they were. Sorry to have missed the class reunion, so many people I'd have loved seeing and visiting with. It was nice of you to remember me. Love, By Bender ______________________________________________________ How wonderful for Mr. Bender to check in. He was one of my favorite teachers, and have lots of fond memories of my sixth grade at Memorial. Still have a project (notebook) somewhere in my attic. Stuff on South America that we did for Geography. Of course , in October, got to listen on the radio to the world series--think it was the Dodgers and the Yankee's--wasn't it always those teams in those days? Every Friday we got to eat a candy bar in class --a reward for being good all week? And the friction (we thought) between Mr. B. and Ms. Jernstedt (spelling?). We always rooted for Mr. B. I don't remember anyone referring to him as "old man Bender." It's great to know that he now thinks of us fondly. Keitha ____________________________________________________ Keitha, I also remember the candy bars on Fridays. The Look and Big Hunk candy bars were popular. As I remember, you brought pomegranates. Do you remember Mr. Bender sitting at his desk, leaning back in his chair and it and him falling backwards? Playing ping pong after school. He was so much fun.
