Comment On The Race:
Team McLaren Mercedes driver Kimi Raikkonen
finished today’s Mobil 1 French Grand Prix second whilst teammate David
Coulthard claimed third. Kimi was leading the race until four laps from
the end, when he ran wide at the Adelaide Hairpin. Kimi made his pitstops
on laps 27 (8.5 seconds) and 49 (8.7 seconds). David stopped on laps 28
(11.2 seconds) and 54 (7.7 seconds). David received a ‘drive through’ penalty
for crossing the pit exit line after his first pitstop and took the penalty
on lap 59. David is fifth in the Drivers’ World Championship with 30 points
and Kimi is sixth with 17 points. Team McLaren Mercedes is third in the
Constructors’ World Championship with 47 points.
KIMI RAIKKONEN:
‘It’s a bit strange to describe my best ever Formula One result as the
worst race of my life, but that is how I feel. To be at the front of a
race with only a few laps left and then run wide and lose the lead is terrible.
However there was oil on the track and I didn’t see an oil flag and locked
the wheels. I made a good start to claim third and was able to keep up
with the leaders and really enjoyed the action. Today, the car was great,
both pitstops were excellent and we were competitive. It was great to be
fighting for the lead and taking it and now that I know how it feels I
can’t wait for next time.’
