Formula1 GP Of Belgium
2002
GP Preview:
The West McLaren Mercedes team has
seen success at the Belgian Grand Prix over recent years, with David and
Mika Hakkinen securing back-to-back victories in 1999 and 2000. Mika also
took three consecutive pole positions for the team between 1998 and 2000.
Last years eventful Grand Prix, which had a number of re-starts and major
incidents, saw David finish in second. The event also has particular significance
to McLaren, as it was at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix that Bruce McLaren
secured the team’s debut Formula One victory.
KIMI RAIKKONEN:
“There is an excellent mix of fast
straights, corners and hairpins at Spa, all of which help make it one of
the favourite tracks amongst the drivers, teams and spectators alike. With
the revisions to Hockenheim, Spa is probably now the second fastest circuit
we race at. It also offers numerous overtaking opportunities, which is
fantastic! These include through La Source and Stavelot, however the main
one is the right-hander of Les Combes at the end of the fast Kemmel straight,
and we also get to drive Eau Rouge, which is always an enjoyable experience.”
