Notes From Coach Lanagan

September 5th, 2002: Billerica at Malden Catholic MC opened their season with a hard fought 2-2 with Billerica. The Indians scored first on some sloppy defense from the Lancers. Later in the first half, Brendan Graf beat his man in the corner and sent a ball to senior Andrew Doherty who banged the ball home into the lower left corner of the net. In the second half, Billerica scored first again in the first five minutes on another rebound in front. The Lancers struggled but finally managed to break through the Billerica defense when Tano Meola scored his first goal of the year.
September 10th, 2002: Malden Catholic at Methuen The Lancers earned a 2-0 at Methuen through some outstanding goaltending from senior Mike Sheehan. Andrew Doherty notched his second goal of the season while sophomore Pat Mullaney scored the first goal of his career. Cory McKenna and Pat O'Shea added assists. The defense was outstanding in the second half to preserve the shutout. The Lancers open league play with an extremely tough road game at Xaverian on Saturday September 14 at 10:00am

September 21st, 2002: BC High at Malden Catholic

The Lancers ran into 2 of the top 10 teams in the state and found it very tough going.  The Lancers, along with every other team this
year, could not stop Nick Figuerido from scoring.  Unfortunately, he scored 3
times for the Prep as they defeated the Lancers 4-1.  Brendan Graf scored
for MC.  The following Saturday the Lancers hosted a tough BC High
team.  Although they played well MC fell 3-1 with Andrew Doherty scoring the lone Lancers goal.  The BC High game was one of the better efforts of the year as a team by MC.  However, they just couldn't find the back of the net.  The Lancers continue their tough schedule on Friday with a home
make-up game against Haverhill at 4pm at Brother Gilbert and then Saturday
travel to Catholic Memorial to take on the Knights at 10am.
