Edwin Lamar Heflybower, b.4/17/1845; Clarke Co. VA; d.8/3/1913; bd. Rockland Cem., Warren Co. VA; m.4/28/1883; Aurelia Russell Timberlake, b.11/12/1849; d.4/1/1918; bd. Rockland Cem., Warren Co. VA; See Edwin & Aurelia's photographs.

A book on the 2nd Virginia Infantry has this entry:

"Hefflebower, Edward L. b. 4/17/45. 6' 1/2" , fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair. Residence Markham Station, enl. 4/25/62 at Hainesville in Co. I of 12th VA Cav. as Pvt. Wded. 10/11/63 near Brandy Station. Unofficial source (VSL) says he was Col or Sgt. at this time. Absent wded. Oct 1863-Mar/Apr 1864. Admitted Gen. Hosp. Charlotteville, 8/15/64; acute dysentery. Furloughed 30 days beginning 9/7/64. No further record until POW at Fairfax Court House, 4/10/65 (Old Capitol Prison; Elmira 5/2/65; US Gen. Hosp. Elmira, 7/13/65). Oath of Allegiance to US at Elmira, 7/19/13. bur. Rockland Cem. near Front Royal."

I've been informed that Elmira was a prison located in New York.

Also, in the Warren Rifles Confederate Museum is a plaque in the hall leading to the main display room with an inscription that reads:

IN MEMORY OF
EDWIN L. HEFLYBOWER
CO. I, 12TH VA. CAV. C.S.A
BY HIS DESCENDANTS
