Percé Quebec

Percé rock is a beautiful site to visit. The hole in the rock is the result of physical and chemical weathering. Over millions of years the holes that you see and the split in the rock took shape. Weathering is the process by which surface and subsurface rock disintegrate, dissolve, or are otherwise broken down. Physical weathering is the break up of massive rock into small particles through such natural forces as frost action, salt crystal growth and intense daily heating that is followed by nightly heating. This results in contractions and pieces of rock falling away. Chemical weathering is a result of exposure to atmospheric conditions in the presence of water; mainly involving oxidation, hydrolysis, carbonic acid action or a direct solution.  Over time holes formed and so stands the Percé rock you that you see on this web site. The rock is the main attraction site over the summer. People come from all over to visit such a beautiful place.
