DOUGLASTOWN, QUEBEC

The following pictures are from several locations within Douglastown. These beautiful sites are a common reoccurrence in Gaspe each day. The year of 1775 was the year when the parish of Douglastwon was founded.  Mr. Douglas, a  Scotch Land surveyor was sent by the English crown to develop and lay out a village at the mouth of the St. Lawerence. His voyage brought him to the entrance of the Gaspe Bay and this began the foundations of the Gaspe area. As time progressed Douglastown became a settlement area for irish immigrants. St. Patrick's church in Douglastown is one of the few churches that have claim of being an irish church within the Gaspé region. Douglastown residents in the past relied on the cod fishery as its main source of employment and food.
