Exclusive Fan Club Interview with Carol McKinley - May 24, 2004
Recently I submitted some of our questions to Ms. McKinley to answer for the group.  I want to extend a big THANK YOU to her for taking time out of her busy schedule to do so!
1. Influence on my life: my parents. married 50 years next year...I still call them and take their advice on everything from raising my children to which spice to use in a creole sauce!

2. Decision to become a journalist: Never made the decision. I became a journalist by accident. Wanted to write for Saturday Night Live, but was too scared to move to Chicago by myself. Started broadcasting in Gillete, Wyoming at a station called "Y-100"...as a deejay. They needed someone to read the afternoon news, so I did, and I was really terrible.

3. Where did I grow up? Early childhood in Galveston, Texas...and from eleven on in Wiesbaden, Germany.
4. Most memorable moment/interview with FNC. I especially like interviewing average people who find themselves in challenging situations...and have the courage to take a stand. I don't have a favorite. Enjoy all of these moments.

5. Dinner with any political/civic leaders, who would it be? Nelson Mandela

6. One thing viewers would never guess about me. I play the oboe.

7. One thing I could not possibly live without. Conversations with my children.
8. Embarrassing/funny on-air moment. I'm 45, so there are lots of them. When I was in radio and covering the University of Colorado football team in Boulder, Colo. I thought I was off the air, and started singing the CU fight song in my Ethyl Merman voice. The engineer accidentally pushed the on air button. It came out loud and clear...it interrupted the traffic report, but it was pretty funny.

9. If I could interview anyone...who? What would we discuss? JonBenet Ramsey. Who killed you?

10. Would I like to be an anchor? Or stay a roving reporter? Have tried anchoring. I get bored with it.
More questions?  Email them to me and I'll have Carol answer them in a future Q&A session.
