TEXT: Parenting: Rewards and Responsibilities , The Developing Child VIII. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This special interest course promotes the development of life management skills: Acquiring, Reinforcing, and Applying Enabling Skills; Processes, Parenting, and Care Giving. Through learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate for the late adolescent, students will examine and solve aspects of the following practical problems: becoming an informed parent, caring for the newborn, being an effective parent/caregiver, caring for the sick and injured, caring for the elderly, and exploring career opportunities in caregiving. Students will also examine and solve aspects of the following practical problems: understanding the types of human growth and development, recognizing the effects of heredity and environment, understanding the stages of human growth and development, promoting optimum growth and development from infancy through middle childhood, meeting needs of exceptional children, promoting optimum growth and development of adolescents and adulthood stages, and promoting understanding of child related careers. |
