TEXT: CLOTHING: FASHION, FABRICS AND CONSTRUCTION VIII. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This special interest course helps students develop an understanding of fashion design, fashion history and textiles. Through learning experiences students will examine and solve aspects of the following practical problems: operating and caring for a sewing machine; constructing a clothing project and exploring careers in the textile and apparel industry. Students will examine and solve aspects of the following practical problems; examining influences on clothing choices; recognizing the social-psychological aspects of clothing; planning and coordinating a wardrobe; selecting clothing and accessories; purchasing clothing and accessories; caring for clothing; performing basic clothing alterations and repairs; operating and caring for a sewing machine, and examining current issues relating to meeting clothing needs. Special emphasis will be placed on the study of color, line, and design. These learnings will be applied in the planning and construction of a quilt and one other sewing project. The $5.00 fee is to cover consumable items in the sewing lab. Each student will be responsible for the cost of their sewing projects. IX.
