Notes on the battles of 537AD:
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles provide the year of the Battle of Camlann. It can be deduced from
Sir Thos Malory that the battles at Dover and Barham Down occurred in the same year. He
also provides the dates for all three although C & J Matthews' text suggests that the battle at
Camlann took place during the winter. Malory identifies Camlann as being near Salisbury . In
view of the locations and dates of both preceding battles and that Mordred drew his forces from
around London, this seems more likely than Birdoswald (6m nw Brampton) or Bewcastle (9m
nnw Brampton), Cumberland, as suggested by another source.
