World Tour Version 2.0

Joyce left Dublin to write Ulysses. Hemingway left
Spain to write The Sun Also Rises. They had to. Distance generates perspective
and understanding.
Thus the McGuirk World Tour: I've been given a year
in which to work, study, travel, see the world, write, take pictures,
and, most importantly, gain perspective and understanding.
The Tour kicks off on December 29th, 2001. I leave
home, Providence, Rhode Island, that night and I arrive on New Years Eve
in Sydney, Australia. I'll be taking classes there at the University of
Sydney. One class is an American History class (from 1865 on) taught by
an Australian, which should be rather interesting. The other is a 20th
Century Literature class. When I finish those in mid-February, I have
a few weeks to vagabond around Australia.
I come back to the States on March 4th, stay till
just after my sister's birthday on March 8th, and leave for Nice, France,
on the 9th. I'll be staying with a French family there while taking an
intensive language program from EF. This program is finished in the second
week of May, and from then till June 11th, I'll be, again, vagabonding,
across Europe this time.
So, the way I look at it, I've been given a year
by God. This website is an attempt to chronicle what I do with it. I hope
you vicariously enjoy my little journey, here, and keep in touch with
me while I'm all over the world. Check out the various sections: the journal,
where I jot down random observations and events of the day; the gallery,
where I post digital pictures of the stuff I'm doing (with commentary,
hopefully); and the map, where you can see where I am at that moment.
Thanks for caring enough to arrive here.
Much love.Peace.
Sincerely,
Brian J. McGuirk
