Found: By Ian Engelbrecht, under large rocks, partially embedde in the sand. Fynbos vegetation. Date: 22 October 2003 Length: Approx. 7cm Comments: Smallish burrowers with distinctive orange pedipalps, with black markings. These can vary from dark burnt orange to tangerine. They resemble their Gauteng cousins, O.pugnax, but their dark legs are distinctive, fairly uncommon within the Genus. The males are more slender than females, typical for burrowers, and have noticeably elongated pincers, which are very strong for their size - as is borne out by the pic (Below) of Ian suffering a painful and tenacious squeeze on the finger! |
