Over a year since my last entry. Yet the counter shows that not a single soul has bothered to look here since then, so what the fuck ... this page has the anonymity of a confessional. In all that time, I have split up with Kimmi, irreversibly I am anguished to admit, yet we are keepin' on keepin' on. I have stayed around Jo'burg - Edenvale (with Ian Wiggins), Brixton (housesitting for Evelyn, a new friend who went to upstate New York) and now I'm back in Kensington briefly at the house. The latter half of 2001 was, band excepted (we had a No 1 hit with Crazy Over You), a mess. Acrimonious discoveries about a marriage gone sour. I had to carry Kimmi, whose response to the walls crashing in was simply to walk away and leave me trying to hold up the pillars. I had the paucity of judgement to have an affair with a married woman, call it desperation, rebound, hungry ego, whatever, it was still a monumental disaster. Although their marriage was in shaky ground, I had no right destabilising it further. The furious husband (who in better times I might have been friends with) gathered a small soap opera's worth of telephone recordings, videotapes and photographs and has since threatened to ruin my life as he has judged me to have ruined his (protestations that his marriage was on the skids in any event only act as fuel for his wrath and revenge seeking).
If I survive this, I have resolved to simplify my life. One family, one job, one band. No more compensating for people too lazy to hold up their own. No more pandering to people who disguise their selfishness and stupidity behind a thin mask of vulnerability. This year I am leaving all the shit behind - hell mend those who try to hold me down.
