Tuesday 9 May 2000
Back again. Have been fairly busy this past month, but with not much to show for it. Just keeping the treadmill turning. I'm tentatively sniffing round the job market, now that the altered tax laws have rendered the advantages of contracting minimal.
Last Friday (5 May) Zen Arcade played at Abelarde Sanction wth Mind (a young indie-ish band) and Black Eyed Susan (veterans, i.e. our age, playing pretty much punk). We played brilliantly, more than justifying our pole position (playing third). Very good audience response, so we were all well chuffed. Got trashed afterwards - the pub ran dry, so we repaired unto the Roxy Rhythm Bar for drinks well into the wee hours. The response augurs well for our first "important" gig on 19 May. Again. we'll be at Abelarde, but this time we'll support the excellent Sunways, who, being on the serious up and up right now, should draw a fair bit of music press attention. Mental note: Get a haircut and... oh yeah ... and stay sober till after we've played!
That same weekend, Chad and Liesl return from their new home in London and we'll be celebrating the boys' birthdays jointly (Jamie's four on the 21st and Callum's two on the 10th), so busy times are in store.
On Friday morning, Kimmi and I are off to a secret (from her) destination to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. We'll be back on Sunday 14th - the actual W-Day. I can't wait. In a similar vein, although on a grander scale, Dad and Diane have just left on a 2-week trip to Italy - they'll be motoring gently around the mountaintop citadels of the old country and consuming large quantities of the local wines. I'm hugely envious! Till next time ... |
