Dang! This is getting to be a regular thing and there's no-one more surprised than I. I must tell you about a fantastic gig on Wednesday - a secret party featuring none other than the Violent Femmes. The venue was the Bakery (next door to the old gasworks). Had a complete blast. The party was by invitation only, but Kimmi, Andy and myself camped on the doorstep along with about 50 other non-VIPs and, after an hour and a half, we were admitted free. Actually, the queue was half the fun, as we were in the good company of Damn the Icebergs (our hosts at the Abelard gig) and they plied me with beer, so a cheery mood prevailed. The gig was awesome - the venue was just big enough for the 700-or so people there and small enough to ensure that everyone could see and hear everthing perfectly. I spent most of the time at the very front, centre stage, moshing like a lunatic (I think I sprained my toe). The band was better than ever, great sound, jaw-dropping bass guitar, playful antics etc. All in all, one of the most memorable parties ever.
Kimmi's off to Sabi this weekend to take home Emma, who has been standing in for (and showing up) our regular maid. So it's back to struggling to find babysitters (sigh). Hoping to jam with Rob & Co. on Saturday - more material for his solo album. I also have to paint and assemble a bunk bed which was delivered in kit form, much to my horror (I was expecting it to arrive in one or maybe two pieces max). Anyone who has ever seen my DIY expertise at close hand will appreciate that this should be interesting, to say the least...
Otherwise, all is well at home, with the minor exception of Callum's ear infection, which has delayed the hearing tests scheduled by the paediatrician - his late speech development is causing us a little concern, although he certainly isn't deaf and he seems to understand fairly complex sentences with ease. Personally, I think he's just being his usual ornery self, but there's no harm in checking that there isn't a problem.
