Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? Over a month since my last news update so here goes... Current headlines: Jo'burg has been flooded by torrential rains - the worst in 50 years - many people have lost shacks along the banks of the Jukskei and its major tributaries due to the water level rising dramatically. The traffic has been a disaster - on Tuesday there was full-scale gridlock. It took me an hour and a half to get to work (Kensington to Sunninghill, usually about 35mins in rush hour), but I fared better than some (Sam took 3 hours to get from the East Rand Mall to Sandton City). Everyone is damp and confused.
Had a great weekend - my birthday party continued from Friday night until Sunday afternoon, encompassing a Thai dinner with the Usual Suspects (Fri), fish braai with Mom and Steve (Sat lunch), a braai at Andy & Sandi's place (Sat dinner) and a potjiekos at home on Sunday with the ol' Saints guys (and their dolls). Incidentally, the potjie was cooked under an umbrella, Sunday being the official start of the monsoon mentioned above.
Two weekends ago Ray and Lyn descended upon 38 Panther St to transform our back garden. Relocating two trellises has enlarged the grass area significantly. With a new flower bed in place, the results are quite spectacular - I'll post some pics as soon as I get to scan them in. We now have a nice little "Japanese" garden and reading nook down the (formerly unused) side of the house. And I finally put up my hammock. Unfortunately, I have been able to enjoy neither nook nor hammock because of the #@*&%$ rain!
On the music front, Annette (ex-No Friends Of Harry) has joined Sam and me as drummer, while I have agreed to "teach" Sam bass - talk about the blind leading the blind! This effectively means that we have a "whole" band and so I have a second fiddle, so to speak, while the newly named Blade (with Andy, James and Ian) continues from strength to strength.
Otherwise, not much to report - the kids are all fine, bar a bit of a chest cold that Callum's developed and Kimmi is on Weigh Less. I am on my usual Low Health diet. Hope to e you soon!
