Summary: After losing his job and his girl in the same day, our hero Robert decides to take drastic measures and kidnaps his former employers daughter, the snotty Celine, hoping for a big payoff. Meanwhile, two guardian angels sent from Heaven are trying to ensure the inevitable hooking-up of Robert and Celine.
Ewans Thoughts: "I do tend to be cast as cynical characters, but A Life Less Ordinary is a love story - albeit of an odd sort - and I play a sweet innocent guy. Everything's going a bit weird for him though, and there's more humor in this than anything I've done previously."
Christinas Review: While not as critically lauded as Danny Boyles previous Ewan collaborations (Trainspotting and Shallow Grave), A Life Less Ordinary can still be a lot of fun. The movie begins promisingly with Robert and Celines bickering and a surreal dance sequence. The movies quality dips somewhat after that and becomes fairly predictable. As expected, these two beautiful people begin to fall for each other as they both plot against Celines heartless father. Whats not expected is that they are helped along the way by a pair of gun-toting guardian angels. Ignore that bizarre sub-plot (and the increasingly irritating Holly Hunter) and A Life Less Ordinary is an often funny, sweet romantic comedy that showcases the comedic talents of its two lead stars. |
