I have tried several different ways to connect leaders to fly lines. This is the best I have found at this time. The following images show how to tie this knot. If the images leave you a bit confused you can watch the video. Be warned that the video is going to take some time to download, but it helps to see it done live.
Loop Video 2.06 meg of information (there is no sound so don't panic when it is silent)

Start with the line in your hands as shown here. Right hand over left hand. |
![]() |
Form a loop just like the one shown to the left. |
![]() |
Pinch the loop you have formed between your thumb and forefinger of your left hand. |
![]() |
Form a second loop very much like the first, and pinch it between your thumb and forefinger, while continuing to hold the original loop. It is easier than it sounds. |
![]() |
While keeping the two loops pinched between your fingers, pass the line between the loops as shown. |
![]() |
This shows the step above but slightly further along. |
![]() |
Now pinch the line that you just "split" the two loops with as shown to the left. |
![]() |
Reach through the outside loop. |
![]() |
Pull the inside loop through the outside loop. |
![]() |
Pull the loop slowly and steadily. |
![]() |
Pull the loop tight. Normally I lubricate all knots with saliva, but my wife was taking this photos I would not let me publish any images that contained body fluids (a good general policy, but troublesome this time) |

And finish the knot. |
