A Walk in the Sun
Chapter Six

Danny came up to me and put his arm around me. "Hey girlie," he said with a cheeky grin. We hadn't kissed yet, but man I wanted to! He grabbed my hand as we walked through the school yard. People stared, girls glared. They all wanted the fit, freckled, blue eyed beauty Danny (even some guys). But I had him. "Wanna go to the Cinema tonight?" he asked. It was Thursday. "Sure, what movie?" I asked squeezing his hand. "I dont know something scary so you'll hold my hand and look to me for protection," he said flexing his biceps. I giggled, how cute was he? "How about seven?" he asked. "Perfect cause I gotta get home and do my homework," I said. "Great see you then," he said letting go of my hand, and heading for his bike, then he stopped. "Oh and one more thing Linley," he said. "What?" I asked. "Will you drive?" he said looking helplessly at his bike. "Sure thing Danny," I said. "Thanks see you," he said giving me one last grin before riding away.

Dougie's feelings for Hayley were getting stronger every day. By Thursday he couldn't take it anymore. He came and talked to me about it. This was kind of awkward for me, my two best friends dating. "I don't know it's just ever since the dance on Friday Ive had feelings for her," he said. "You should talk to her, get to know her better and then go from there," I said. Okay, I will," he said giving me a hug. "Thanks Lin, love you," he said. Aww Dougie was like my little brother, he was seven months younger than me. "Love you to Doug," I replied, punching him in the arm playfully.

Tom Fletcher had gotten over Eberlie, mostly. He decided to give Hillary a chance, but he wasn't sure how to go about it. Unlike Danny and Harry, Tom and Dougie got an F when it came to women. Unlike Dougie, he didn't have a great girlfriend to go to for advice. "ok," he said to himself, "just go up to her and say ello, just say ello, just say-" just then Hillary walked by. "Ello," he finished. "Oh hey Tom," Hillary said. "Hey fine morning isn't it?" Tom asked hopefully. "It sure is," Hillary replied. "Do you need help with those books, they look awfully heavy," Tom said in a gentle but observant tone. "Oh sure thanks," she replied surprised. She was wondering what was wrong with Tom; he had never done anything like this before. She was enjoying it however. "Where are you headed?" Tom asked. "The dreaded Chemistry," Hillary replied handing him the last of her 5 books to him. "You know you really shouldn't be carrying these heavy books all the way to the Chemistry Lab every day, it's a long walk, not that your not strong or anything, it's just that Id like to carry your books for you every day, it's the gentlemanly thing to do," he said winking. "Sure thanks bunch, it's an awfully heavy load," she said giving him a smile.

Steve Franklin was the kind of guy that you only date once. He was a dirt bag, a chump, a piece of dog crap, and he was Eberlie's ex boyfriend. He was nice and polite enough at school, but on dates, he was anything but the above. No further detail. Anyways, Eberlie dumped him, and he came crawling back, and it happened on Eberlie and Harry's first date. They took the sub to France and ate at a pub. "Well tallyho! Look who it is chaps!" Steve said to his friends as they walked in from the busy French streets. "It's Eberlie, dear ol' Eberlie up and dumped me last month," he said attempting to stand up, but he couldn't he had been drinking. "Oh Steve go home, stop drinking and go home," Eberlie said trying to be nice before things got bad. Steve was a senior, and almost 19. He ignored Eberlie and stumbled over to where they were sitting. "Who's this young chap?" he said pointing to Harry. "This is my boyfriend Harry, now if you'll excuse us-" she started to say, but then he grabbed her arm. "Get off me!" Eberlie said shaking him off. He grabbed her again, this time a lot harder. She shot Harry a worried look, so he stepped in. "Come on now Steve, You go back to your friends, and we'll leave," he said grabbing Steve trying to break Eberlie free. "Come on Steve let go!" Harry said a lot less polite this time. The manager of the pub stepped in. "You're disrupting my customers, Im gonna have to ask you to leave, he said to all of them. We were just leaving," Harry said. "Hey, Steve over there! Free beer!" Eberlie shouted pointing to the corner of the restaurant. "Where?" he asked looking around. "Over there that waiter's passing it out see," Harry said joining in. Steve let go of Eberlie to go get "free beer" and Eberlie and Harry got up and left. They went to a different restaurant, where they ended up having a good time.
