Dirty Strumming Chapter One A Holiday Never to Forget It was the beginning of summer and everyone Charlie knew was going on holiday. She finally convinced her Dad that he was working too hard and they needed a proper family get away. Her father was a doctor and hadnt had a holiday in 6 years and Charlie was a good girl who always did what Daddy told her to. She couldnt sleep knowing that soon they could be in Spain, Italy or even America. But was not impressed when he told the family that he booked 3 weeks at a holiday camp 2 hours down the road! Charlie decided to go along with it, I mean who knows she might actually enjoy herselfmaybe. When they eventually arrived, the place to Charlie seemed corny. It was like she had entered a time warp and found herself back in 1963. A large man with grey hair and a smart suit started to approach the family with a big smile on his face. He reached out his hand gesturing Charlies Dad to shake it. Well hello there Dr. Houseman, glad you and the family could make it. You know if it wasnt for this man I would be dead right now So that was why the family ended up holidaying here, because Charlies father got a discount from a guy he saved at work, typical. They did get something good out of it at least, the man turned out to be the manager of the holiday camp and so he gave the family the best room on the site. An old couple passed them looking a bit suspicious but Charlie thought nothing of it. Charlie was getting bored in her room so decided to go and explore the grounds. There were various activities going on around the camp but nothing to Charlies liking. It was mostly things like board games, darts and silly daytime dance lessons where you make a fool of yourself. Not knowing what to do next she wondered around for a bit passing a notice board. She stopped as something had caught her eye. It turned out to be a fluorescent piece of paper pinned to the board, so she walked swiftly to it. It was advertising guitar lessons for one hour everyday for the next 3 weeks. She thought it would be perfect considering she had nothing else to do. Later that night the whole family went over to the main building in the camp for the evening entertainment. Everyone was dancing the same and Charlie had now regretted not going to the dance lesson. She met a guy who turned out to be really nice and spent most of the night with him. Everyone then suddenly started cheering so Charlie looked up to see a band playing. Although she had never heard of this band before she thought they were amazing and played their instruments really well. One of the lead singers caught her eye. Later that night Charlie wondered off from her family when she came across a sign reading Staff area, No visitors but being curious she decided to ignore what the sign said and carried on. Hearing faint music in the distance, she chose to follow to where it was coming from. She eventually found the guy that she was talking to in the main building struggling to carry 3 huge watermelons. Hey, nice to see you again she said sweetly removing a watermelon from his grasp intending to help him carry one. Charlie? Oh no, Charlie you shouldnt be here this is a staff only area he replied staggering slightly. Ok then fine ill go repositioning the watermelon that she had taken. Charlie waitcan you keep a secret? Because if your father knew you were here he would kill you and if my boss were here he would kill me She nodded, picked up a watermelon and followed him to where the music was getting louder. He opened the door and Charlie looked around. The whole of the entertainment staff was either dancing, playing their instruments or singing. She followed the guy trying to dodge all the obstacles of people that were in her pathway. She felt a bit nervous as this was not the kind of place she would normally hang out. Suddenly the band that was playing that night burst in through the big double doors and everyone cheered. Charlie could tell they must be favourites around here. Her eyes were fixated on the lead singer that she was staring at before from the dance floor. Hey whose that? she said to the guy she was with. Oh him, thats Danny my cousin. He got me the job here. He plays the guitar perfectly and so carefully. Yeah, hes been playing for years with his band who are talking to him over there. Charlie couldnt help but just stare at him. The way his hair fell perfectly over his beautiful blue eyes, the way he leant against the wall, the way his gorgeous smile dominated his face. Then he looked up and stared straight into her eyes. Not knowing what to do she quickly looked down at the floor hoping that he hadnt notice her gazing at him. He started to move towards her slowly. Hey cuz, whats she doing here? he turned and looked at the guy. Oh, shes with me he answered with a huge grin on his face. I carried a watermelon Charlie added quickly. Danny looked at her up and down and then turned and walked in the opposite direction. I carried a watermelon? Charlie immediately thought how ridiculous that actually sounded. Back |
