A Secret to Hold Close Chapter Fourteen Mylie hated herself. She picked up her phone and dialed Danny�s phone number. It rang a couple times before he picked up. �Hey babe. What�s up?� �Hey Danny� I�m going to have to cancel on lunch today.� Mylie said. Lie�lie� that�s all I ever do anymore!!!! �Oh,� he sounded disappointed and she hated herself even more, �It�s ok� Are we still up for tonight though?� �Definitely, I�m really sorry Danny.� �It�s ok Mylie�� she heard him hesitate and then he asked, �Can I ask why you have to cancel?� Mylie almost told him that she had forgotten about another doctor�s appointment with Dr. Jackson but she just couldn�t make herself say it over the phone. �Would it be alright if I explained tonight? I don�t think I could say it over the phone� it�s pretty important.� �Sure. I�ll pick you up tonight at 8:00, ok? I�ve got something pretty important to say too.� �You do?� Mylie didn�t know if she liked the sound of that. �Well then I�ll see you at 8:00. Thanks for understanding Danny.� �No problem� Bye babe.� �Bye.� Mylie replied. She hung up the phone and glanced up. Jess was standing there. �So you�re going to tell him tonight?� she asked with a hopeful expression on her face. Lies� lies� lies!!!! �Yeah I�m telling him tonight since we are leaving in two days.� Mylie said. A slight frown flashed across Jess� face, as if she could sense something wasn�t right but she didn�t ask. �Come on let�s get to your appointment.� Jess didn�t have to call and cancel on Tom because they weren�t doing anything until later that day. The appointment that day wasn�t any better then any of the other ones because the cancer was still there but weirdly it wasn�t changing or growing at all. It was like it was waiting for her to make up her mind. Waiting for her to make a choice, a decision. The trouble was Mylie knew what she was going to do� she just knew that the choice she was making was going to hurt her more than anyone� Back |
