Notes: Whenever I see a new episode, I try to see any comparisons it might have
to an older ep. Usually what I find are bits and pieces of the old eps being
repeated in this new one. For "Soldiers of Fortune," three or four
immediately come to mind. The opening scene truly resembled
"Severance" with the van swooping with the shooting and the
kidnapping. The first part had a little element of "Snatched" with
the ransom demand. But most of this ep reminded me of "The Fertile
Fields" for the diamonds, and "Survivor" and "Blood
Money" for the way their companies dealt with political issues and past
wrongs.
I liked the way they kept us interested and educated us on what really happened
in Africa involving civil war, diamonds, and violence. To me, it seemed rather
complicated and I was trying to keep up with the message they tried to convey.
My sense is this is still going on and there are no easy solutions. Of course
with all that's happened with terrorism, this issue will not get a lot of
attention. Ayesha, I know you speak passionately about refugees and human
rights for the innocent. I implore on you to get this ep ASAP because it will
give you a perfect example of what you are talking about. It will move you,
maybe to tears. But I hope it will inspire you as well.
The guest actors were great. It was great to see Prof. Rothenberg again in
court. John Cullum from "Menace" was great too. His confession at the
end was just like the brother who allowed his brother to die in "The
Fertile Fields."
The most important thing I got was that we saw Nora in action for a change. She
seemed to be more active and ready to step in, not just be a supervisor. I hope
we will see more of this since this is what we expect of her in the DA's
office. I can only hope this will be the year where she gets to be in the
spotlight more often.
This was a great episode, a little complex, but worthy of taping.
