Notes:
I would begin by saying that I'm glad they didn't turn the
Bartman incident into a full blown ep about sports fans rage and anger over
what happens at a ball game. Something which was bugging me before this
ep ever showed was how it was possible for a parolee to suddenly get angry
because a team didn't win the pennant. From reading the descriptions in
TV Guide, it just didn't make sense to me. I was afraid of that, but was
pleased to see the plot go along to where you had two paranoid men who got
mixed up in a bar and something happened.
The beginning was predictable and somewhat even comical as
it appeared that Lennie wasn't showing much affection for the victim. But
the plot line got juicier and more interesting as it moved to another case from
20 years back and then another murder from the same time period. Throw in
police brutality, coercion, and evidence tampering, things reminicent of Confession,
and you had a great ending which all happened because of the complex legal and
ethical manuverings we had to endure.
We might be handed a clue that Ed Green will indeed be
promoted to senior detective and hence a new junior partner will come in.
You've known my choice for that role is Bobby Cannavale. If this scenario
is the case, then TPTB did a nice job of giving Ed some more exposure and
developing his character more, particularly with his interaction with the
questionable Det. Daniels, something which he will have to do more of if he is
to succeed Lennie.
I liked the bringing back of Olivet to the show. There
is no problem with switching back and forth between her and Skoda. While
the defense atty was pretty vocal and adimant about his client's defense, it
would have been more interesting had someone like Mellnick or Shambala or even
Michelle Kates been on the other side of the table.
Sweeps month is coming up and it looks like some more
winners are on the way towards Lennie's anticipated goodbye.
