Notes: The obvious question which should come to mind is how does this show
compare to the season 4 opener "Sweeps" where a talk show host
orchestrated the murder of a child molester? As a matter of fact, I would be
interested in your replies as to how this show compares with
"Sweeps."
I played the tape I have of "Sweeps" and some things immediately come
to mind. First, the shows begin with the actual show being taped. I liked how
they used the different film in both eps. Second, a person is killed after an
instigation takes place. Third, the lawyer representing the clients who are
eventually tried are in big trouble themselves for allegedly being unethical.
Finally, the DA puts in a rebuttal witness who points out the defendant wanted
to have a person killed for the ratings. I was amazed at the similarities. The big
difference though were the number of people involved. "Sweeps" was
only three people in a family, the host, the body guard, and the attorney.
"Swept Away" had 6 cast members, numerous production members, the
producers, the network execs, on and on. But in both shows, they both kept me
attracted to what would happen in the end. I truly loved it and was very glad
of taping it on the first try.
The guest stars was great. Special kudos to Peter Behrens, played by Tom
O'Rourke. I wanted to see him do an acutal trial. What did you think of the
network VP, the guy who looked like Dylan McDermott with a bad hair cut? And
how about the exec producers, particularly the husband? I don't think Darrell
Hammond was in the credits. If he was, he would have been in the opening
credits since he is a major player on SNL and a cash cow for NBC.
I loved the way they swayed from the usual routine in the past few weeks. I was
worried the ending would be another summation followed by a verdict. They
fooled us with the plea bargain. Memo to TPTB, please mix it up for the closing
scene, keep us in suspense with either a plea, a verdict, or something like
"Right to Counsel" where the defendant committed suicide. And keep up
of having Lennie and Ed involved in the "Order" part, even if it's
just for arresting someone.
I can't say enough how pleased I was with this ep from start to finish. They
took the hottest thing on TV and made me wonder if that stuff really happens on
MTV or another channel.
Were you impressed about "Swept
Away" as well?
