Notes:
It appears I will be
able to get this posted on the first try. But I'm being conservative with my
comments just to play it safe.
This ep turned up a
notch from what we've seen so far in season 13. Now it seems all the characters
are getting into it and I like it. The politics and hot button issues are
beginning to wear down some and motive others. If you weren't convinced season
13 was going to be a great season, this should do it for you.
Loved the undercover
pose Ed did with the secretary at the lawyer's office. I was wondering he and
Lennie were going to get in trouble with that. But they did over the arrest of
the suspect. The disappointing thing was not having more of a constitutional
argument on this. This certainly would have been taken up another notch had
there been a black lead defense counsel, someone like Leon Childs or the one
from "Competence." But this part of the plot was made up by the
stances which Arthur, Van Buren, and Serena took on this. I'm not saying this
is at the "Savages" level overall, but this ep is in the same
ballpark with "Savages" and "Teenage Wasteland" on the
issue of the DP. Clearly we have a better knowing of Arthur's and Serena's
politics. I wasn't surprised to see Jack take the pro DP stance once again.
That's why it reminded me so much about "Savages."
The opening was great
with the deli scene, since this was based on a real life case in NYC involving
a murder at the deli. I also loved the ending in terms of going somewhere which
I didn't expect. I thought there would be a brief sentencing or another Arthur
press conference or Van Buren talking with Ed and Lennie again. Seems
everything was smoothed out between the detectives.
A definite must watch
for those who want to compare how the DA's of the past and today deal with the
DP and its application.
