Notes:
I won't say much, not because it was a bad ep but because it was a vast
improvement over recent eps which I have pointed out in previous posts. A great
alternative from the Grammy awards. I hate awards shows, even the Emmys for
slighting us in recent years.
Great to see Charles Garnett back. I was relieved James Rebhorn's character
wasn't altered.
This ep was slightly based on the incident at the Super Bowl last year in
Atlanta in which Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was involved and
charged. Obviously, TPTB changed the plot a lot to make it unique from that
incident.
I thought the ep overall was great because it addressed a growing issue in
sports where pro athletes are getting in trouble with the law, with kids, with
sleazy friends. It was nice they addressed all these issues without overstating
one or the other. I liked how they connected all the main characters and
subplots into a well written ep with a logical ending.
I also liked how in the second part we didn't have another drag out courtroom
scene for 30 minutes. I don't mind having a courtroom scene or even summations,
I only wish they can tone it down and not have it every single week. This is
especially with the summations. In fact, why not have more opening statements.
What I would like to see more of in the second half are for Jack and Abby to be
in action more often. Let them do some of their own investigating, or being in
their office looking at evidence. Wouldn't hurt to have more scenes in judges'
chamber or at Rikers. Robinette was great at this, and more of it would help.
Of course, it wouldn't hurt to see a part of the Law team get involved also.
They way Lennie and Ed handled the attempted suicide was great. I know I'm
advocating that Lennie and Ed step on the other sides turf, but to me both are
on a hot streak and anything to give this show new life is fine with me.
This was a well written show and well performed by everyone. It kept me
interested and in suspense from the get go. Not in the league of
"Indifference" or "Conspiracy." But not in the pits with
the likes of "Doubles" or "Stiff." Keep the course Mr. Wolf
and you might get that second Emmy.
