WELCOME

     Azores Cattle Dog
{cao de fila de Sao Miguel}
Welcome, watch as we take Tank and Razor to work

l
have found that these dogs become devoted to their owner very young and wish to be with, and please you, any way they can. They stay close to you and need no formal training to stay near , they are keen to contribute to any job you do, so, whilst young you need to protect them from being hurt by bad cattle .

The Fila de Sao Miguel, enjoys to work with you and is not rough when he does not need to be, so keep him calm and the lessons short and fun. They are powerful for their size so being sensible with the stock is important .

l
n order to help them learn their job ,l introduce them on goats and teach directions and make sure l can stop them and call them off at will. This way when you need to
protect them from trouble or show them the easiest way to get a job done you have control.l use goats to build their confidence and it saves you from getting run down by cattle if your pup gets enthusiastic.
Acorianio Razor, 7 mths

l am going to settle TANK down , then introduce him to the stock.
Today it will be goats .

We want him to learn to go around the goats ,hold them together , and push them when you are ready. These dogs are eager but l found them easy to call off the stock and they understand that you want them together.ln this series of pictures l get TANK  to hold the goats still and then force them to move and go round them to the left so they stop, let's see how he does ??
   Reis' Tank, 6 mths
Tank sees them,  they                             l step up to move the goats                      Tank responds,
sure are aware he is there !                      callingTank to push them as l do.               so do the goats !
Not quick enough,
soTank insists they move
l step in , encourage him to
go left
That will do !   Good Job Tank
