Holcus lanatus

Origin. Eurasia.

Distribution in Canberra Region. Scattered invasion along rivers, roadside and disturbed areas. Common along Murrumbidgee River.

Dispersal. Seeds are contaminants of soils and gravel used in road-making;
also dispersal by wind (short-distance), water, animals, and mowers.

General description and biology.

Tufted, pale green to blue-green, soft and velvety.
Leaves flat or somewhat cupped, 6-10 mm wide, to 20 cm long.
Seed-head a soft, cylindrical spike, very pale with some purple colouring.
Flowers from October to January.
Highly invasive in damp areas.
