Serrated Tussock Grass
Nassella trichotoma
Origin. South America .
Distribution in Canberra Region. Widespread but usually in grassland areas grazed by stock or near pine plantations.
Dispersal. Seeds are dispersed by wind, water and animals.
General description and biology.
Large tussocks, bright yellow-green from about October to April, then golden-yellow.
Leaves very narrow, closely rolled, finely serrated, up to 50 cm long.
Flowers from November through summer.
Seed-head large, spreading, finely branched.
An aggressive colonizer.
Similar species: Snowgrasses (Poa spp.),Speargrasses (Austrostipa)
