Perennial Ryegrass
Lolium perenne
Origin. Eurasia/hybrid.
Distribution in Canberra Region. Mainly around Mt Stromlo area, and other grassland areas.
Dispersal. By wind, water and animals.
General description and biology.
Small to medium tufts, deep green.
Leaves 2-5 mm wide, to 15 cm long, prominently ribbed, flat to folded, glossy underneath.
Seed-head a narrow flattened spike, with spikelets arranged alternately.
A common pasture species � linked to hay fever.
