Broad-leaf Privet
Ligustrum lucidum
Origin. Asia.
Distribution in Canberra Region. Sheltered woodlands, especially near garden areas.
Dispersal. Mainly by birds.
General Description and Biology
Can become a large tree (6-10 m), usually rather tall pyramidal in shape.
Trunk grayish. Leaves glossy dark green above, paler underneath; 4-5 cm long, 3 cm wide.
Small whitish flowers in clusters.
Spreads mostly by suckers; also by seed carried by birds.
Invades moist areas and along rivers.
Small trees, up to 1 m high, can be relatively easily pulled out.
