Hairy Panic Grass
Panicum effusum
Distribution in Canberra Region. Widespread & common in the region.
Usually as scattered minor component in grassy communities.
Colonizes disturbed or bare areas.
Dispersal. Seeds are dispersed by wind, water and animals.
General Description and Biology
Small to medium-tufted perennial.
Leaves 3-6 mm wide, to 12 cm long; green in spring/summer, later fawn and curled after frost.
Leaves sparsely hairy with longer hairs along leaf margins at 5 mm intervals (distinction from CNG).
Seed-heads finely branched and spreading with small flowers borne singly.
