African Lovegrass Eragrostis curvula
Origin. South Africa .
Distribution in Canberra Region. Scattered invasion along rivers, roadside and disturbed areas. Common along Murrumbidgee River.
Dispersal. Seeds are contaminants of soils and gravel used in road-making; also short-distance dispersal by wind, water, animals, and mowers.
General description and biology.
Large tussocks; perennial.
Leaves 2-3 mm wide, 50 cm long, flat, pale green to blue-green in warmer months;
rolled when old or frosted, largely hairless, gently drooping..
Leaf-tips of large tussocks often curled.
Seed-heads finely branched, spreading, deep olive-grey spikelets* when mature.
Flowers from November to February.
