Distribution in Canberra Region. Widespread but not common in the region; mainly in open forests.

Dispersal. Seeds are dispersed by water.

General Description and Biology

Tall shrub or tree, to 8 m high. Can be mistaken for a pine.
Dense cypress-like crown with branches that tend to droop.
Mature leaves are reduced to a few tiny scales.
Photosynthesis is carried out by pale green branchlets.
Flowers mainly in summer to autumn.
Flowers are in angles or on ends of stalks, cream to green, about 1 mm diameter with 5 lobes.
Fruits are hard green globular nuts 5-6 mm diameter on the end of a yellow to red ovoid receptacle 1 cm long.
