The front porch had simple white banisters and lattice work across the top that was removed some time after the pictures were taken. I'm not sure why, but guess that the wood was likely rotting due to age. I love the picture below that shows the car. Its interesting how cartain things can help to date a picture.I think that the car was parked in the driveway in front of the porch. What we used as a library was used as a garage at one time, the garage doors were in front of where the car is parked.

Above; taken in the 1970's. You can see the "new" porch. Not nearly as fancy as the old one, but functional at least. I can't really tell by the pictures, but think that the garage doors were taken off of the house, and a wall put in. (I'm sure that if I am wrong, my mom will correct me and I'll have to change the information here.)
This picture is of the house in either 1980 or 81. It was taken by Randy Carlson of Kasson. I appologise for the quality, the original is much better looking and not yellowed at all. Randy did a great job of capturing the sense of the size of the house. All the other pictures make it seem smaller to me than it really is.
Here we have a few pictures of the interior of the house when my family lived there. the first four pictures are of the main stairway at the front of the house. The picture with the rocking horse is the upper floor looking at the rear stairs. The last picture is of the bedroom right off of the rear stairs that my mother used as a sewing room.

PICTURES
Left: Here we can see the new porch that my parents added on to the house. We call it the "Johnson Addition", (Dave Johnson of Kasson helped my father build the additions) actually, there were two "Johnson Additions" on this house. The other one can be seen below, on the right side of the picture. This was the sun room, it is attached to the kitchen.
In this picture you can see the frame of the sunroom. Below shows it finished, but the picture is somewhat hazy due to my cheap scanning. I'll try to get better pictures up here soon.
You can see the frame of the sun room in this photo as well. It shows the rear of the house and the deck. The chimney you see is for the fireplace in the library. (Oh, and the little boy in the picture is my brother... LOL)
This is the door leading into the kitchen that Julia Houston Goodrich mentioned in her story about living here. Her father would tie a rope to this door and the other end of the rope to the barn so the help wouldn't get lost during the blizzards.
Here is the back of the house again right after the siding was put on.
Another picture of the front of the house. Here you can see the new octagonal window that my father put in to make room for the porch roof. You can see that the roof is not finished in this picture. The following two pictures show what the front of the house looked like when we were done with it.
My parents still have this rocking horse in the place that they live now, crayon stains on his little leather ears and all. (What can I say, I wasn't the most obedient of children.)
My mom's sewing room, altho she didn't use it very much if no one else was home. She said she got an eerie feeling and was very uncomfortable in here at times. I only write this, because at the top of the photo is a shadow that shouldn't be there. Maybe it was my moms hair showing over the lens, then again, maybe it was something else.
This door leads to a large walk in closet that my dad used as a type of "Bar". The floor in this closet had an access to the crawlspace under the front part of the house, and I remember when I was about 8 years old, my dad sent my brother down there to check something, altho I don't remember exactly what. I do remember that he found a rabbit skeleton down there and showed it to me. I couldn't sleep that night, I kept thinking that the house was "eatting" the rabbits.
