July 2000 many Americans were worried about Y2K compliancy but on the last Tuesday of the month my only thoughts were of market hog classes. I showed well in the morning in showmanship but Amanda, (the hog) was not very cooperative. That night my biggest worry was wether or not she would show any better. In my first go around it was like magic, she went anywhere in the arena I wanted. The second go around I gave the judge every possible view of my animal. In the third go my heart was about to beat out of my chest. The go seemed to last forever but my hard work over the summer had paid off. I may or may not have had the best animal that day but I sure did show it the best I had ever shown anything before. That night I proved that a country kid could win a show that had been previously dominated by high priced hogs. I won the championship with a $150 hog. Something that to my memory had not happened in a long time. People knew I had worked hard with my animal and so many people contributed to my hog that I not only broke the sale record but I doubled it. |
