Offense Explodes In 8th Inning As North Eaton Advances to Classic Series
It wasn't how either team thought they would get here, but the Classic Series will feature the two most dominant teams in Classic League history again. North Eaton never trailed, and explorded for four runs in the eighth inning to give the Dags a 7-3 win over the Brentwood Bearcats.

Both teams sent their ace pitchers to the mound, and their second best pitchers to the bullpen. Both Kevin Brown and Eddie Plank were available from the bullpen, however neither were used. It is expected that Plank will be the game one starter on Monday evening.

The choice to not use Brown could be scrutinized. The Bearcat bullpen was shaky all year, and that decision may have weighed on the Brentwood manager as he decided to continue to stick with Walter Johnson in the eighth inning. Johnson went 7.2 innings, allowing six runs. Johnson was 0-3 in the series, but only had a 3.42 ERA.

Reggie Smith capped the game with a two-run, pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Smith was not even on the active roster until September 1 and was one of the final players added to the playoff roster.

"I couldn't believe I made the roster," Smith said, "then I couldn't believe I got a start in this series. I'm just trying to do whatever is asked of me and try to help win a ring."

The pursuit for North Eaton's first championship will continue Monday with Eddie Plank (1-1, 1.80) on the mound against Sandy Koufax (1-0, 1.76). The matchup has probably the two most potent lefties in the league matching up. North Eaton's game two starter could be a major question. It is believed Lake Erie will bring Ed Reulbach back on three days rest, but Ed Walsh would only have two days of rest and is not expected to be ready. North Eaton may have to rely on Rube Waddell, who Lake Erie has had much success against over the years.
