Arky Vaughan connected with a 'big fly' as the Sycamore Mohawks rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over North Eaton Posy DagGumits, 5 to
4.

Sycamore had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits.
Vaughan began the Sycamore spurt when he ripping a solo home run (his 1st of
the season).  After an out was recorded, Jackie Robinson came up and he hit a
single.  Vern Stephens then doubled bringing in another run.  Bob Johnson was
up next and he worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the final run of
the inning.  Sycamore had a total of 10 hits for the game.

The victory went to Reb Russell(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Russell got help from Hoyt Wilhelm who earned his 1st save.  Charlie
Geggus(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He surrendered 2 hits and no walks in 1
inning.

Sycamore's manager was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there? You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead.  But, hey, that's what makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over 'til its over.'
