Harvey won the game with a rally in the 9th inning when they scored 4 runs on 5 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Gabby Hartnett who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 15th of the season). Overall Harvey out-hit Athens 12 to 8. Mike Cuellar(6-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2 runs. Dick Radatz recorded his 23rd save. The loss was charged to Tom Henke(6-2) in relief. Henke was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!' |
