Bat Cracking had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Lefty O'Doul led off and he banged out a single. Bonds stole second with some aggressive base running. Hank Aaron then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 38th of the season). Athens was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th. Weimer(14-8) was credited with the shutout. Chief Bender(6-11) was tagged with the loss. 'When Weimer is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Athens' manager said. 'He always pitches well against us.' |
