Grand River came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 4 hits. Mickey Mantle led off the inning for Grand River when he doubled. Willie Mays was next and he lined a base-hit scoring a run. Mays took second on the throw. Billy Williams then slapped a one-base hit. Williams got a great jump and stole second easily. Sid Gordon followed, but he was set down on strikes. After another out, Tony Lazzeri stepped up to the plate and he slapped a single giving Grand River the victory and sending the 22,536 home-town fans home happy. For the game Grand River out-hit Bat Cracking 8 to 4. The win went to Andy Messersmith(3-6) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. David Wells(3-5) was tagged with the loss in relief.
