WEB GEMS- Top 5th: Eddie Collins robbed Mike Schmidt of a base hit.

Tom Henke was great in relief as the Athens Bobkittens won in dramatic fashion
over the Cleveland Mayors by a score of 10 to 8 at League Park.

Athens came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs utilizing
2 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Ken Williams opened up the scoring
as he delivered a solo blast (his 19th of the season).  Mike Schmidt stepped
into the batter's box and he drew a walk.  Chuck Klein then lined a single.
Babe Phelps followed and he would hit into a force play plating another run.
Max Bishop stepped into the box and reached on an error.  Earl Averill added
to the rally and reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning.
Cleveland had 17 hits in the game while Athens had 7, but Athens had the more
timely hits.

Three Finger Brown(9-4) got the win allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Brown was
helped out by Henke who recorded his 20th save.  Joe Berry(0-4) absorbed the
loss in relief.

'The only way this one could have been better', said Brown, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
